Parish Council
Mission - The
purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council is to (1) represent the parishioners
of St. Joseph in advising the pastor regarding parish matters, (2) consolidate
the various parish ministries under a single organizational structure, and
(3) foster communications between the various parish ministries, and between
the parishioners and the parish administration.
Membership
- The Council consists of the pastor
and 20 members. Nine members are elected by the parishioners, and nine are
appointed by the pastor. The two parish trustees also serve on the council
in an ex officio capacity. All members, except for the parish trustees, serve
a term of three years and cannot serve more than two terms in succession.
The terms are staggered so that each year, three of the Council seats are
up for reelection and three for reappointment. Any person duly registered
in the parish, in good standing as adjudged by the pastor, and at least eighteen
years of age is eligible for membership on the Parish Pastoral Council.
Meetings
- Regular meetings are held in the parish
rectory at 7:00 PM on the first Monday of each month. All parishioners are
welcome to attend the meetings and may address the Council at the discretion
of the president.
Officers - Officers
are elected for two year terms by the Council members. The current officers
are: Jack Marinella, President (561-6023); Sal Capelli, Vice-president (561-7771);
and Sr. Dorothy Toussaint, Secretary (561-0348).
Committees - The
Council has adopted a committee
structure that is consistent with Diocesan guidelines for parish pastoral
councils. Committees consist of members of the Parish Pastoral Council as
well as other members of the parish at large. Having non-council members serve
on parish committees is important for continuity of membership, since council
members are limited to two successive terms of office, while there is no term
limit for non-council members. Each committee has a chairperson who is a member
of the Parish Pastoral Council as well as a co-chairperson who is not a member
of the Council. Any parishioner who is interested in serving on a parish committee
is invited to contact one of the council officers, or call the rectory.
Key Accomplishments - During
the more than three years of its existence, the Parish Pastoral Council has
provided advice to the pastor on many important parish matters. Through its
committees, the Council sponsors activities designed to enhance the spiritual,
social and material aspects of the parish. Some examples are:
