St. Joseph Parish Council

Minutes of Meeting, September 18, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President, Jack Marinella, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph Hall. Marti Badagliacco led the meeting in prayer.

Attendance:    Fr. Carmen Carlone, Fr. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mary Kryvoruka and seconded by Pat Campanella.

Sr. Dorothy read a letter from Hugh La Monica announcing his resignation from the Parish Council. He felt that since he served since 1999, he wanted to give someone else an opportunity to serve. With sincere regret, Hugh’s resignation was accepted. A thank-you letter for his exceptional service will be sent. 

Reports:

Finance Council:   Fr. Carmen summarized the financial status of the parish and stressed the need for a Finance Council, mandated by the Diocese, to monitor the budget. The Finance Committee may merge with the Finance Council.

Cemetery: The Cemetery Committee co-chaired by Tony Sceia and Steve Kincaid agreed to do more research and report back to the council next month. Frank Carrelli and Burwell Porter will assist in determining whether to pursue the cemetery issues, keep it or sell it. Meeting to be held on Thursday.

Planning Committee   Pat Provnick and Ron Chance, co-Chairpersons

Pat Provnick reported that 37 people attended the Speak-out session and was proud of the success of the meeting. Report due to the Diocesan Office by November 13. The committee will work on a 2-year project that will determine which parishes will remain open and which will have to be closed.

New Construction Anthony Capella, chairperson, Frank Carrelli, and Tony Sceia will work on this committee and bring recommendations back to the council regarding St. Anthony Hall. Lighting in church will be changed and paid for though donations.

Bi-Laws Committee and Election Committee : Anthony Padovani, chairperson

After much discussion on the by-laws and election of new members, Anthony Padovani, chairperson of Elections Committee, presented an outline for elections. Results follow:

            Open:  5 seats for January 1 to December 31, 2009 (Three-year Term)

                        2 seats for January 1 to December 31, 2008 (Two-year Term)

Nominations will take place at the Masses on November 18 and November 19. The Top Ten nominees will be published in the bulletin on November 25 and November 26. The Final election will take place on December 2 and 3.

Anthony Capella reported that the Clam Bake date is set for Saturday, September 8, 2007, from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. The Clam Bake realized approximately $17,000 last year.

Social Activities Committee:     Elvera Porter, chairperson, Mary Kryvoruka, Marti Badagliacco, Madge Codone, Pat Campanella, Minerva Rodriguez, Sharon Figueroa

Elvera Porter suggested that the giving tree be put in the old baptismal font area beginning December 3. A list of needy people needs to be recreated along with a plan of collection and distribution. Gift cards will be made. Price range will be decided and details (where to store gifts, cut-off dates, where to distribute gifts, how to distribute them) will be finalized. Nick Domenico will call Fr. Bakey to learn of needs and the St. Joseph parishioners will help. The committee will try to combine efforts of all three parishes. Sr. Helen Sanchez and the elementary school children will collect non-perishable food and share it with the Hammonton parishes in their Social Concerns efforts.

Ecumenical Committee:      Joe Olive, chairperson, Nimia Bermudez, Madge Codone, Pat Provnick

Joe Olive reported that the Ministerium is planning a Thanksgiving Prayer Service on November 21, 2006, at 7 p.m. at St. Martin Church.

Education Committee: Anthony Padovani, chairperson, Sharon Figueroa, Minerva Rodriguez

Anthony Padovani reported that the elementary school playground is nearly completed, plans are being made with town officials to have an egress from the school to Tilton Street, and a successful Open House was held.

Liturgical Committee: Marti Badagliacco, chairperson, Ron Chance, Pat Provnick

Marti Badagliacco reported that we now have 15 Lectors, 30 Eucharistic Ministers, and 9 Sacristans. People are needed to help decorate the church for Christmas.

Religious Celebrations Committee:     Frank Carrelli, chairperson, Nick Domenico, Elvira Porter, Steve Kincaid, Pat Provnick

The car committee is negotiating with Jon Agresta’s son on the Cadillac.

New Business

Jack Marinella asked the building committee to consider a crying room.

The next meeting will be a dinner meeting to be held on Monday, December 4, 2006. Frank Carrelli volunteered to book a restaurant for the dinner meeting. Mary Kryvoruka will prepare the opening and closing prayers.

At 9:30 p.m. a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Anthony Padovani and seconded by Pat Campanella. Sr. Dorothy led the closing prayer.
