He further explained that the inventory and bookkeeping will be corrected before next year’s feast.
A letter from Marianne Laslie was read which indicated her resignation from the parish council due to added responsibilities she has incurred. Jack Marinella accepted her resignation with regret. He complimented her for the work she did with the Youth Group as well as her active involvement in other committees on the Council.
Ways and Means Committee: Anthony
Capella, chairperson, Anthony Padovani, Nimia Bermudez, Pat Rodio
Anthony
Capella reported that the financial report for the Claim Bake is not ready, but
it was a huge success with 109 plus pounds of pork sold and all $100 tickets
sold. It was suggested that the time for the Clam Bake for next year be changed
to 12:00 to 5:00 and that the prizes be distributed differently.

After
discussion, Elvera Porter recommended that the Autumn Festival be cancelled
because of a conflict with a few other parties. The motion was made by Ron
Chance and seconded by Sal Capelli. The motion was carried. It was suggested
that the $300 deposit that was made for the Autumn festival be used for October
16, Deacon Ismael’s 25th Anniversary. Elvira will check on this.
Discussion on the New Year’s Eve party followed. Since it is attended mostly by
outsiders, it was decided not to have the New Year’s Eve Party. No motions were
made.
Youth
Ministry Committee: Rich
Blasberg, chairperson, Maryann Laslie
Richard
Blasberg informed everyone that the youth group will begin meeting again every
Friday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Bingo Hall basement.
Evangelical
Committee: Hugh LaMonaca, chairperson, Pat
Campanella
Hugh LaMonaca reported that although
flyers and envelopes have been put in strategic places, no donations have been
received to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul program. Home visits indicate that
people are in real need of financial help. Hugh suggested that a message hot
line be set up whereby incoming calls would go immediately to voice mail. The
SVDP members would check the voice mail message periodically from their own
homes. He suggested that a separate line go into the phone system, possibly at
the Grace House. The SVDP would pay for the line. Hugh also reminded everyone that
more members are needed. Hugh also reported that coffee and donuts will be
canceled on October 16 and October 30 because of conflicting activities.
By Laws Committee: Hugh LaMonaca, Alex Tigro, Ron Chance
Hugh
LaMonaca presented the proposed Amendment to Article III (Membership) to the
Constitution of the Pastoral Council of St. Joseph Parish. In Section 1,
Paragraph 1, twenty-one (21) was replaced with fifteen (15). The section now reads: The Council is composed of fifteen (15) elected
members. In Section 2 Paragraph One, seven was replaced by five, of three
members was crossed out, and by the appointment of four members by the pastor
of the parish was crossed out. It now reads: Each year five seats on the
council will fall vacant. Those seats will be filled by means of election by
the people of the parish. In the second paragraph of the same section, the
last line was crossed out and not replaced. It read “Pastoral appointments
shall be made on or before the third Sunday of December of each year.” Section
2, Paragraph 2, now reads: Nominations for elected seats shall be made on or
before the second Sunday of October, and elections shall be held on the second
Sunday of December, of each year. Hugh LaMonaca made a motion to accept the
changes, Elvera Porter seconded the motion. The motion was carried.
In reference to the new members needed on the Council, (six this year with the resignation), Hugh LaMonaca and Jack Marinella will prepare a ballot of 8 to 10 people interested in running, present the list to Monsignor Bottino for approval, and present it to the parishioners for voting.
The Spanish Council, that is in the process of being formed, will have representatives on Parish Council.

celebrating Ismael’s 25th Anniversary as Deacon. It was agreed that
the $300 down payment made for the cancelled Fall Festival be transferred to
Ismael’s celebration. Cakes need to be donated. Elvera Porter will look into
this matter.

parish hall. Monsignor Bottino agreed to visit them at their next Wednesday
meeting. Ron Chance also asked to have a member of the NJ Regional Coalition,

and to try to influence and understand what is happening to social and
political issues in our town, such as, transportation and relocation issues,
which are re-segregation trends) attend the Parish Council November meeting..
