NOVEMBER 23, 2008

(THIRTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME)

Dear Parishioners:

                                                            HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

At the Thanksgiving Liturgy on Wednesday evening, November 26, the celebration of the Eucharist will be offered for the special and particular intentions of all of St. Joseph Parish Families.  At this liturgy, we will pray that God especially bless and return the goodness of the many many people who give of time, talent and energy to make St. Joseph Parish possible.  We have so much to be thankful for.  First and foremost, we thank God for the gift of faith which binds us together in unity and love and gives our lives purpose and meaning.  We share in a wonderful and profound destiny breathed in us at the moment God created.

I sat down and tried to put on paper the things that I, personally, am thankful for.  When I start to put it in writing I get a picture of how much we are blessed.  In addition to our faith and our worship, we have this wonderful gift of community that we share.  We have the gift of the Filippini Sister in our midst, our priests and deacon.  We have so many active and faithful parishioners who minister to the community.  We have those who help us pray at liturgy and those who take the Eucharist into peoples homes.  We have those who reach out to others and listen to them, pray with them, share with them.  We have so many people who help us to come together, break bread and socialize, and to become family.

I would like to express, on behalf of each member of our parish family, the greatfulness we have for the parish family of St. Joseph and for the incredible, wonderful gifts that God has given to us.  Have a truly blessed Thanksgiving holiday.  Know that you are in our prayers.

                                                            Love, Father Carmen

ADVENT ADULT EDUCATION INQUIRY CLASSES

The Social Life committee has planned to celebrate our community with different refreshments each week.  There will be a little time for us to break bread and celebrate the parish family of St. Joseph.  All are invited.   Call the Rectory and give us the number in your families who will be coming so that we know how many to prepare for.

The sessions will be held in the School Cafeteria from 7 to 8:15pm.  Our Social Life Committee will serve refreshments at each of the four sessions:

                                                                        COME EARLY

Call the Rectory and let us know if you are attending so we can make preparations.

ADVENT - THE COMING OF LIGHT - A SEASON OF HOPE

The theme of Advent will be "The Coming of the Light".  The theme will embrace all of our parish families in their journey towards the light.  In this wonderful season of hope, stars will be placed around the Church.  The stars will contain the names of all of our parish families.  We will pray for each of the families of our parish during the entire season of Advent.

APPLE BASKET PRODUCTION FOR THANKSGIVING EVE MASS (TUESDAY)

On Tuesday evening, November 25th, at 7pm we will put together the apple baskets that we use at our Thanksgiving Eve Liturgy.  Anyone who would enjoy helping us put together the Thanksgiving Apple Baskets; you are welcome to join us at 7pm in the Church.

Dear Eucharistic Minister:  (WE NEED YOUR HELP)

After the Thanksgiving Eve Mass we ask that you take a basket of apples to the shut ins on your list.  Enclosed in the basket is a letter of prayer commitment from the parish.  Also, there is a Thanksgiving prayer attached.  We want our parishioners including our shut ins to know that they are a part of our prayer and that they are always connected to this community.  The baskets, in the homes of our shut ins, will be another sign of our commitment to pray for each other and of the special connection that we have in and through the parish family of St. Joseph.

REAL ESTATE PURCHASE OF THE MATTIOLI PROPERTY

The price of the property is $115,000.00 plus a few negotiable interests.  The property is located directly adjacent to the teacher parking lot across from the school.  The house has frontage on Pleasant Street.  The side of the house abuts the school parking lot.

Sal Capelli, Frank Bartolone, Jack Marinella and Anthony Padovani have assured the Parish Council that they have committed donations from people of the area that will cover the cost of the purchase.

FOOD PANTRY

This year, the food pantry will again be giving out

Thanksgiving food baskets to the needy.  The food

pantry is currently serving about 400-500 people

per month and needs your help to provide them with

a Thanksgiving dinner.

Non-perishable food can be left in the vestibule

of the church.  Hams, frozen turkeys and non-

perishable food can be dropped off in the rectory

office during office hours.  Because our freezer

space is limited, we encourage donations of

supermarket food cards that could be used by the

people we serve to purchase their turkey.
